Greenwich Village Now
What you see now in the West Village is a conglomeration of all the architectural, artistic, and intellectual history that came before... and the house at 83 Horatio reflects that history. In the 20s, it was divided into apartments and, like many of the private homes in The Village, it has been carefully "reconverted" to reflect its 150 year history.
Within the boundaries of Greenwich Village are the oldest houses, the most historic landmarks (but not the tallest!), and the quaintest streets. A short walk from the tranquil, tree-lined Horatio Street, you will find jazz clubs, cafes, bars, restaurants of every ethnic variety and price, off-Broadway theatres, art galleries, bookstores, and trash and treasures of every description. The creative talent and vitality that has always been the hallmark of The Village still abounds.
New in the neighborhood is the suddenly trendy Meatpacking District with designer shops, clubs, and restaurants. The magnificent new Hudson River Park is at the end of the block and you can walk to Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty viewing the skyline as you go. Turning again onto Horatio Street you are back in my garden filled with birds and flowers.
